Cati Torrella started in
the Country Line Dancing in 1.998 at the nowadays disappeared Jambalaya Country Bar in the village
of Masnou (Barcelona).She started
giving workshops on 1999 in the also disappeared Seaside Country Dream Country Bars at Tarragona and Platja d´Aro
villages, where she introduced the country line dance following the international
American standards. On the 2000 she was Founder Member of the Asociación Española de Line Dance
y Baile Country – Line Dance Association. She is the former President nowadays. Also on 2000 she was appointed NTA director for Spain.
On ther 2003 and in front of the necessity in the spanish community of
creating a more suitable line dance education programme, she centered all her
efforts in the Line Dance Association pro´s programme, succeeding in the
improvement and continuity of the education programme for all those
interested in teaching line dancing: The Pro´s. On 2001 she introduced in Spain the international country dance
competitions and also started to give workshops in the first Barcelona´s
community center that offered line dance lessons in Spain: Cotxeres de Sants On 2003 made a very significant and active contribution in the
creation of the spanish country line dance competitions circuit (Line Dance
Series) getting the recognition of it. This circuit has been a reference to
all levels. Cati Torrella has been the person in charge of helping
associations of other countries to develop education programmes and
competitions. Nowadays she is the All Western event Director and the “The Spanish Event of Lloret de Mar”
event codirector. From the start she has considered the line dance education a matter of
the most importance, and it is the reason of her constant work with
personalities of the country dance world as: Pedro Machado, Barry Durand,
Dave Getty, Brigitte Zerah, Kelly Gellette, Roy Verdonk, Dorsey Napier or
Neil Smith. Her often travels for line dance education puposes got the award of being the only spanish Pro
that gave workshops of line dance choreographies at the UCWDC Worlds in
Holland and that judged in international competitions out of Spain. Her line dance choreohraphy Blueing has won the Spanish Hall of the Fame 2009 to the best Spanish
choreography. She has been the inspiring brain of the succesful LD Dance Boot
and her strict demands have led the LD Dance Boot to its
international recognition. She has the acreditation of the Line Dance Association as Instructor
and National Judge and NTA Level II. |
